March for Science, April 22, 2017
Looking at the weather forecast some days before Earth Day 2017, it appeared that this Saturday would be the crummiest day in a several-week window. Waking up that day, the forecast was right. It was going to be cloudy and windy, with a high of about 60. Bummer.
Yet this made me even more resolved to go to the local March for Science event here in Fort Worth. I figured some folks would be put off by the weather, so I determined I would not be. And it really wasn’t all that bad. Cool and windy, yes, but I was pretty prepared for that. Some folks came in no more than T-shirts, and kudos to them for sticking it out.
In any case, I had gotten sign-making materials on Friday, and made my sign early Saturday. (I wanted to see how the spirit moved me to a message!) I chose these messages: one side was, “Defund Trump, not the EPA!” The other was, “Science Matters because Facts Matter!”
One of the things I enjoyed most about the Women’s March in DC on Jan 21 was all the great signs, so for this march, that’s what I focused on for pictures. There are a couple of crowd pictures, too. Estimates of attendance I saw were around a thousand folks, and it was great to be among friends. I met some new people and enjoyed being active in this small, but I think significant, way. The message was important, and I wanted to add my voice.
Now looking forward to the People’s Climate March on April 29!
