Slovenia 2026 Day 2 (Sept 2)
Both nights on this trip so far, I’ve slept really well. This morning, we’re all in the same building where breakfast is served, so it was just a quick walk down the stairs. We had agreed to meet at about 8 AM, then the plan for today was to decide what hike to go on and do that.
Note: This is the third post in this series. Go HERE to start from the beginning.
It had cooled down a bit overnight, so when I went outside first thing, there was a lovely mist low on the hills.

The weather’s been great; mostly in the range of 60s to maybe low 80s. It can get pretty hot in the sun, but there’s a lot of shade around, too. This means that dressing for any activity is a matter of how many layers to take and how warm that first layer should be. I opted for a cotton t-shirt and my quilted vest. Turned out to be a great choice; the walk was very comfortable.
After breakfast, we all met at the lower porch level where the B&B has hiking sticks, bikes, etc. Here we decided who was going where. Diane was our advisor since she was aware of several nice choices.

Most of us chose the gentle hike along a forest trail with Diane as our guide, but three intrepid ladies headed off with John (Diane’s husband) to a more strenuous challenge. Then off we set!
It was a short walk to the beginning, or actually to mid-way on the trail. This picture was at the end of our walk on the map. We think we started at #7, going down to the right to end at #1.

We were on the Pot po Logarski dolini, or Logarska Dolina walking trail. Walking time to where we stopped and walked back to the B&B shows to be about 90 minutes. I don’t know who’s the test walker to figure the times, but it was someone faster than me!
Of course, we were moseying a bit, and the other ladies were kind enough to check on me bringing up the rear, or stop to let me catch up.
We started out on pavement but soon veered off into the woods. The path where we started was pretty wide, but it narrowed to look like a real walking path. I don’t want to say hiking trail because I envision hiking to have more obstacles and be more difficult. This was definitely walking, even though there were lots of tree roots and some rocks to navigate.

Every once in a while there was a view or feature, like a flower or rock, that caught my eye.

I do like this picture. It was early, and the sun was still low enough to shine behind some trees across a meadow from where we were. This meant the trees had kind of a halo effect.

There were several signs along the way with interesting facts about the area. I especially liked this part of one, thinking of someone who was on the Utah River Rafting trip who shared with us something similar about water. This tree one seemed a good complement.

There was a funny sign towards the end of our walk; the beginning if you started at #1. Can’t picture seeing something like this in the States. 😉

We saw a logger’s hut, no longer used. But the sign said they cut trees higher on the hill and built a tree slide to get them to the bottom (look on the right side of the first picture). The loggers would stand at various points along the slide to monitor the speed, which could get up to 120 miles per hour. To speed up the trees, they’d put water at strategic points. To slow them, they’d throw mud on the slide or put in metal “stops.” Also saw a tree there with an interesting outgrowth.

Here are some final walking path pics:

Then we were at the end, right at a beautiful meadow with small, lovely yellow flowers.

We came out here but turned the other way to walk back to our B&B on the paved road. I was ready for a paved road!
Those of us on our walk found some food to munch on, as it was now about 1 PM. And after a while, the folks from the other hike returned and joined us.
The afternoon activity was a car (van) trip up to a waterfall and some more hiking. I decided to skip that, but everyone else went. This gave me some time to take a shower and put my feet up. I also got a start on this blog, so hopefully won’t be up too late tonight.
We had dinner at the same restaurant as last night, but with a twist. Instead of everyone ordering their own meal and not being able to finish because the portions were so large, we decided to order just a few entrees and everyone shared; family style. We had done this with dessert last night and it worked great for both dinner and dessert tonight.
For a treat, five of us decided to use the sauna the B&B has, and it was wonderful! Hot sauna with all the fixings: robes, towels, shower, water, tea, resting couches and chairs. The sauna was really hot and had a 15-minute timer in it (an hourglass, turns out). 15 minutes was really about all any of us could take. Oh, and a massage chair. That was fun, too.
After that, we scattered back to our rooms and were in for the night. Glad to finish this blog entry before it gets too late.
Tomorrow about mid-day is the end of our pre-trip. We’ll be headed back into Ljubljana to meet the other six ladies joining the trip, plus our guides. That portion of this trip starts at 5 PM. I feel like I’ve had a full vacation already, but more is to come! Stay tuned.
