Slovenia 2026 Day 1 (Sept 1)
Note: This is the second post in this series. Go HERE to start from the beginning.
Today’s the day I adjusted to the day and time here. Indeed, it does seem that I lost a day in the travel experience, but I woke up at about 8:30 this morning and it’s Tuesday. That means the website updates and other things I usually do on Mondays hadn’t been done, so they were on the agenda for today.
First, though, breakfast. Since it’s a B&B, there was a nice buffet spread. Diane (who has been here for a week with her husband and is joining us for this pre-trip only) texted me that they were there already if I wanted to join. I did! So, I did a quick make-myself-presentable and headed that way.
After breakfast, I took a couple of pictures of the hotel in this same area, which is in the opposite direction of the mountains pictured yesterday with a meadow in between. It’s all very picturesque, even to the pony grazing (had to do a wider shot to include him, but it was worth it).

Then I got busy doing the travel day post for this blog. It was great that my technology solution for getting the pictures from my phone to the computer, and then to the website, worked flawlessly. Whew, no hidden hiccups.
That done, I washed my hair (showered last night) and got ready for the day. I spent some time with my Monday reading. I also mostly packed up all my things because I’ll be in a different room tonight, but wasn’t sure which one so couldn’t move things myself. As it happened, as I was reading on the sunny balcony with my shirt off (it was hot in the sun), the lady came in to prepare the room for the next guests. I think we both surprised each other, but since I was mostly ready to go, it was quick to get me on my way. Jen and the rest of the troop weren’t back yet, but apparently my new room was one of two in another building. The lady kindly carried my suitcase there. I finished up my reading in the porch area, then started going through some email.

And the universe was very kind to send me a fuzzy friend. This kitty was very friendly, jumping up beside me for pets, and purring for my reward. Nice.
Psst: don’t tell my kitties I made a new friend. 😉
Jen had left this morning to go back to Ljubljana to pick up everyone else for the pre-trip while I stayed to settle in and get stuff done. When they came back, I joined them for some snacks and then we all got checked into our rooms.
Then they all went off for a bike ride, but I skipped that, as did Jen. After she found the van keys (worrisome that they had seemed to disappear), we had some time to visit, which was nice.
When folks came back from the ride, we all had some time to talk. Soon enough it was time for dinner. We went to the same restaurant as last night and had a pleasant time learning about each other and just talking. Tonight we had dessert, sharing three for the whole table (eight of us). I got a chocolate ice cream, which was very tasty.
So, not many pictures today. Our morning plans are for a hike after breakfast. Now that I’m acclimated and have my tech stuff sorted, I’m looking forward to seeing more of the local area.
Good night for what I’m calling Day 1. It might not technically be that, since I left home two days ago, but it is that to me now!
