Slovenia 2026 Day 10 (Sept 10)
We woke this morning to rain. Real, pouring down rain.
Note: This is the eleventh post in this series. Go HERE to start from the beginning.
Since our plans for the day had included two outdoor activities (visit with a beekeeper and sightseeing around Lake Bled), we had to pivot. Jen, Ellen, and Minka came up with an alternate plan. Beekeeping was now off the table, but they decided to switch days. This meant that today would be the more relaxed day in the Bohinj Lake area, then tomorrow we’ll head off to spend the day around Lake Bled. So we packed up later in the morning and headed to our hotel for the next two nights in Bohinj.
The rain didn’t let up for most of the day. Even though we got to the hotel earlier than we’d planned, they had all but two of our rooms ready, with the last two to be ready within about a half hour. Luckily my room was ready, so it was off to unpack and chill for a while. This was somewhere around 2 PM.
The hotel is an eco-hotel, which I really appreciate. They conserve and minimize environmental impact as much as possible. But what else they have was a really pleasant surprise–an aqua park! This is a whole big deal, with lazy river, waterslides, hot tub (or at least a warm tub 😉 ), restaurant, locker rooms, rock climbing wall that allows falling into the water, and more I’m probably not listing. Finally, a pool to swim in!
Ellen and I went to check out the area, and I decided that was my afternoon destination. We weren’t meeting for our group check-in until 5 PM, so there was plenty of time.
A wristband is required to open the doors to the pool area, and a robe and green towel is provided in the room, as well as some slippers to walk in. After I unpacked, I put on my bathing suit and robe and headed out.
I swam around the lazy river area for a bit, then decided to check out the outdoor pool. The temp outside was about 50 degrees, but the walk to that pool wasn’t too long. The outdoor pool was the only place where it would be possible to swim laps, so that’s where I spent the next half hour happily doing backstroke and breast stroke back and forth. Couldn’t do freestyle without my goggles, but what I could do was fine. And it felt wonderful! Luckily the rain mostly stopped during the time I was swimming laps, so I didn’t have to contend with rain on my face while doing the backstroke. 🙂
Here are a couple of short videos showing the area. The first is from where I parked my stuff and went back to to get dry. At the end of that one you can see the outdoor pool The second is just about halfway along the indoor pool area.
Loved it! Then had time to get back to the room, shower, and head off to our meeting. That was a nice sharing time. Afterwards it was dinner at the hotel (the rain had resumed and I wasn’t keen to get out in it). Carolyn and I had a nice sharing time of our own there.
I’m now back in the room, finishing this, and will work on the pictures from the rafting trip Jen just got and forwarded.
Tomorrow, if the rain stops sufficiently, we’re headed to Lake Bled to see castles and forest and shops. Fingers crossed!
