Slovenia 2026 Day 3 (Sept 3)

Again this morning, breakfast at the B&B buffet at 8 AM.

Our plan for the day was to first hear a talk by the family (or, daughter and father) about the valley and their family’s history with it. It was a little chilly, but we gathered outside in a circle of chairs on the front lawn area so we could take in the gorgeous views.

The father didn’t speak much English so had his daughter translate, and she of course knew enough to tell us what she knew, too. The father had a big role in shaping the valley into what it is today. It was a pretty place owned by a few families that started to get overrun with day tourists. The owners formed a company to manage the space, and that eventually morphed into the national park. The father was a landscape engineer who work on planning trails and land use and such. (That’s just a rough approximation of what I remember!)

After that, we had some time to do a bit of hiking or walking, or nothing, until the 11 AM checkout time.

I chose to walk the paved road a ways, passing the largish (and quite expensive, I understand) hotel in the valley. It’s quite beautiful, isn’t it?

Just a few minutes past the hotel there was a sign for a waterfall, a 5-minute walk off the road. My speed! 😉

The water level is quite low here right now, so there wasn’t much water, but there was some! This kind of made up for the waterfall I didn’t see yesterday, and looked to me to be in a prettier setting.

I got a video because I love the sound of the water.

With less than an hour to do this walk, I didn’t go much further down the road, soon turning back to the familiar site of the B&B. If you look close to the last picture, that building just to the right of middle is where our rooms were for the last two nights. (My first night was in a building just behind and a little higher on the hill.)

We were all packed up by checkout time, then took a couple of hours to visit and munch on a real variety of food for lunch (thank goodness others had stopped at a market to buy some things, because I didn’t have anything). So, I ate because of the kindness of my fellow travelers. 🙂

By 1 PM the van was loaded, as well as its passengers, and we headed back to Ljubljana. Here we’re staying at Hotel Mrak for the next two nights. We arrivde right about 3 PM, so were able to check into our rooms and get situated and cleaned up. I enjoyed a nice shower!

At 5 PM, the whole group met. Six ladies joined for this regular part of the trip. We had an introduction time, sharing our “I am from” poems or just sharing a little about ourselves. This was a great part of the trip, and is an Honest Heart Journeys difference. People shared some really heart-felt things about their lives, not just what, but how their experiences affected them. Lovely.

By 7 PM we were off to dinner. We walked a couple of blocks, then through a plaza. Turned right at the fountain, and there was a pizza restaurant with a large area of tables outside.

After a loooooong dinner, we had great food. I opted for the meatballs, which came with pasta; so, essentially spaghetti and meatballs! 😉 It was good.

Right across from our table was an interesting statue; don’t know who of, but guessing someone important to Slovenia. And the river is right there, with boat tours passing by.

By dinner’s end, the sun had gone down, but the weather was still very pleasant. We strolled up and down a couple of streets. So many people eating at tables everywhere. Reminded me of a much larger version of the River Walk in San Antonio. Before heading back to the hotel, we got some gelato for dessert. Yay!

As a fitting end to the evening, we passed by that fountain again, now lit up and quite beautiful.

Tomorrow we sight-see around Ljubljana, ending up at a castle that we saw the top of tonight. Should be an interesting day!
